Proud to offer 100% Merino wool
As of 2018 we switched our stock wool from acrylic to natural merino. The main reason is because we're trying to lower our impact on the planet and do away with tiny man-made fibres getting in to the ocean. Even though natural yarn is more expensive to use, the properties of this wonder-wool far outweigh this irksome fact. Read on for the low-down on marvellous merino.
Merino yarn lets water vapour flow. It has the ability transport moisture from your skin and wick it away to the outside. This ultimately means that when you sweat it won't hang around to make you cold and smelly. Keeps you cool when you're hot and hot when you're cool
Due to merino's natural wicking properties and ability to absorb and distribute water vapour, you could think of it as another layer of skin. It helps your biggest organ perform some basic functions. As wool has a natural kink to it, air is trapped easily, making it an insulator. Equally so, water can be trapped too and so will cool the area between the skin and the fabric as it evaporates when you're hot.
Our wool has an extra property and that's the non itching kind. It's made of a blend of superfine merino which is naturally softer than regular wool and regular merino.
Quick Drying and Anti Odour
Because merino is the superior yarn for wicking away moisture quickly it means it's pretty inhospitable to bacteria, which needs a nice damp home to breed. This is the prime reason you get a horrible pong to some clothes that have been left damp. Thankfully merino dries quickly because it's super fine.
Washable and Colourful
Thankfully this is one wool you can wash at 40 degrees and not worry about shrinking. No hotter though please folks. Don't tumble dry - just lay your hats flat!
Colours may vary very slightly from the website according to supply but please remember colours are a graphical representation only, and may look different on screen.
